Oh my goodness! It has been so long since I have blogged. I’ve been a little off for the last couple of weeks. I have an announcement that I hope will make up for my absence.
The big news is that Tinkerbell is going to be a big sister!!!!
That’s right we are expecting our first baby in late November.
As usual Tinkerbell seems somewhat underwhelmed but I know there is excitement bubbling somewhere in there.
So there’s the reason that I have been AWOL lately. Baby and I are very tired and sometimes slightly sick. Sewing is not a huge priority right now. I am working on a swap quilt though that will have to be kept secret until my partner receives it. I also got the wedding quilt on the quilt frame and was going to start quilting this morning. Only a couple of inches in the needle broke and my hormonally overloaded self left the sewing room very unhappy. I’ll try again tomorrow morning because it needs to get finished. Maybe I’ll be less emotional tomorrow.
I didn’t even wait until the last day! Are you surprised because I sure am. I was so excited that this months guest teacher was Ann Fahl. Her book Thread Dancing was the first book on FMQ that I bought. I didn’t do the loops or the stars because I’ve had lots of practice with them since they are two of my favorite quilting designs. I’m quite proud of my spirals. I need to work on my speed control with them but I like how they worked. I’m not so good with the flowers. The ones that didn’t get messed up by my misbehaving bobbing looked ok but they are HUGE. I’m going to have to learn how to make them better and a little smaller.
So of course I chose the spirals for my sampler quilt. I knew I could get them to look at least halfway decent.
Here’s my first three months. I think that I’m doing ok. I definitely see improvement.
I also cheated a little and got an early start on one of my guilds next projects. We’re making a Stack-n-Whack and I couldn’t wait to see what would come out of my fabric. I also wanted to have some done so I could pick out a background at a great sale this weekend.
This is the only block that I have sewn so far and a scrap of fabric I had to test the kind of fabric I want to buy. I think that I really like the pink with it. Can’t wait to get more done and to be able to go shopping this weekend.
I did it!!! I’ve been saying for over a week I was going to get this quilt top finished and today I finally did it.
This isn’t the greatest picture. It’s hanging over the quilting machine waiting to be rolled on and quilted. That’s not on the list until at least next week. I’m hoping that while it hangs there it will tell me how it wants to be quilted. Any ideas are more than welcome. My biggest worry is that I only have a midarm machine and this quilt is 95 ” square. By the time I get to the other end I’m not going to have very much quilting space.
I also got all of y pieces cut out and ready to sew for my spring mystery quilt. That is going to get finished first thing tomorrow so that I can take it back to show the store and get a 25% discount this week.
This is what it will look like when I get it finished!
I got my Name Game swap quilt today! It came from Deb of Frog Cottage Designs. I love it! She did a great job of matching my blog colors.
She did hand and machine quilting on it and used English paper piecing for the stars.
It looks great on the wall behind my sewing machine! I’m so excited about it!
I got started piecing the wedding quilt I’m making. It’s going to be fun. I don’t usually work with bright colors so it’s almost like a quilting holiday. I can’t wait to see it come together.
Not a lot to show for today. I did get my row for this week done and I’m ready to go get the final instructions for my mystery quilt this weekend. I also took back the last quilt I had to bind for the store today. Now I need to start focusing on a quilt that I’m making for a woman to give her granddaughter for her wedding in a couple of months. I’ve started cutting it out and I’ll probably get started sewing it tomorrow.
I didn’t show my mystery quilt progress last week because it had two steps and wasn’t finished until this week. So here are the three rows I’ve made so far.
I love the little Minky chickies. They’re fuzzy and cute. I can’t quit petting them. I got my latest kit today. This week I’ll be making a pink and brown chevron row. Can’t wait to get started on it. Then there’s only one more week. I’m excited to see the finished quilt but I’ll be sad that I won’t be able to look forward to it every weekend. I did see a new block of the month project in the store though and it was calling my name VERY loudly.
I also saw this pillow made up and had to have the pattern. I’m kinda a sucker for St. Patrick’s Day.
I also forgot last week in all of my malfunctioning madness to share a giveaway prize that I won from Cat Patches.
She was celebrating her 1000th blog post by hosting a giveaway for these 5 fat quarters. I was so happy to win. I think that I will find some great solids to go with them and I might have an idea of what to do with them. We’ll see though when I actually get around to it.
Speaking of giveaway’s don’t forget to come back next weekend for the …
I have my prize all figured out and if you enjoy embroidery you will definitely want to check it out. Can’t wait! I love parties!!!
I got to work today on some top stitching that needed to be done.
I sewed a zigzag stitch with invisible thread around the hearts on my Mi Amore quilt.I used some white to do a blanket stitch around some flowers. This was my first time using my machine to do a blanket stitch. I had a couple of rough spots but I was very happy with it overall. The flowers were for this block. I joined a mystery quilt at My Girlfriend’s Quilt Shoppe and this was our first block that we got Saturday. I’m excited to go pick up the kit for the next block this weekend. I’m hoping to get to work cutting out and starting my next store sample quilt tomorrow. I’m excited to do that one as well.
